Title: Boston Punk Pioneers' Film You'll Pay For This to be
Released by Shiny Object Digital Video, Inc.
Shiny Object Digital Video, Inc. is pleased to announce the acquisition of
worldwide VOD and US home video rights to the film, You'll Pay For
This. The film is a compilation of early footage of the Boston area
punk band, Unnatural Axe, and also includes the more recent video for
The Man I Don't Want to Be which won a Telly Award in
2003. Featured are the Axe playing live Three Chord Rock,
They Saved Hitler's Brain (inspired by the 50's cult film of the
same name), The Creeper, Bombing and Burying, and many more.
Formed in 1977, Unnatural Axe unleashed their beer-fueled two and three
chord punk rock on the Boston area and New York and were one of the
founding bands of a scene that in a few short years was to include the
likes of The Freeze, The FU's, Proletariat, Gang Green, and more recently
bands such as The Unseen. Unnatural Axe was literally born in a basement -
in singer Richie Parsons' basement, to be exact. He and Tommy White
founded the band, which also included Frank Dehler, all three of whom still
play with the reformed Unnatural Axe. While the Axe were prolific at
playing live at venues such as the Rat, Cantone's and CBGB's, they only
released one four song EP during the time they were originally together - a
7" which, when found, now commands hefty prices ranging in the hundreds of
dollars. In 1979, they were also featured on the Boston Bootleg
comp. There's a handful of later 7-inchers which were issued, and in the
mid-90's, Lawless Records released a CD compiling their recorded
history. Between 1977 and 1980, they supported numerous headliners,
including The Dictators, one of the earliest Mission of Burma gigs, The
Plasmatics, and even The Police. Breaking up in 1980, they reformed two
years later and have occasionally played ever since. They have been
featured on one of the highest-rated Killed By Death compilations, as well
as Rhino's Mass Ave comp. Bands from around the world have
covered Axe songs, including Italy's UFO Dictatorz, France's Splash Four,
and most notably, The Dim Stars with Thurston Moore and Richard Hell. In
recent years, Unnatural Axe has been playing more frequently, including
Punk Magazine's 25th Anniversary and at an art exhibit featuring works by
Dee Dee Ramone, Arturo Vega, Jayne County and Winston Smith.
The US DVD release will also feature existing footage of the never finished
punk rock horror comedy The Creeper which the band was working on
during the 70's (and of course, starred Unnatural Axe). The
Creeper also featured Oedipus, who hosted the first punk rock radio
show in the US, presenting the first radio interviews in the States with
bands such as The Ramones, the Talking Heads and The Damned.
For the first time, viewers in the US will be able to enjoy Unnatural Axe
close up while avoiding bodily injury.
